Aloke Gupta is currently leading the Demand Response (DER grid services) area in Energy Division at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), where he is focused on the intersection of energy policies and emerging technologies. At the CPUC, he has been instrumental in key statewide policy initiatives related to Energy Storage, DSM/DER/Demand Response, and Smart Grid and other areas, such as: recently introduced CalFUSE demand flexibility proposal, rollout of emergency programs for summer reliability and innovations in DSM/DER programs, development of market-integrated demand response markets, California’s Energy Storage procurement mandate, industry leading statewide rollout of 17M smart meters, and landmark customer data privacy and access rules, Previously, he was in the private sector as the Senior Director of Market Development & Policy at Imergy Power Systems, a developer of turnkey energy storage solutions. Prior to moving into the energy sector, Aloke’s career included developing new product lines and businesses in technologies industries (networking and electronics). He holds MSEE/MBA degrees from Stanford and Lehigh Universities, and a BS-Engineering Physics degree from Lehigh.
