Chris Lee serves in the Hawaii State Senate as Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Culture and the Arts, and Assistant Majority Whip. First elected in 2008 as the youngest member of the State Legislature, he previously chaired the Committees on Judiciary and Energy and Environmental Protection.
Lee authored laws making Hawaii the first state committing to 100 percent renewable energy and a carbon-negative economy by 2045, as well as zero emissions land, sea, and air transportation. He also authored Hawaii’s Climate Adaptation Initiative, reformed utility business models, and established rebates for electric mobility.
Lee was named Best Policymaker by the US Green Building Council Center for Green Schools and Green Schools network, was awarded Vote Solar’s Solar Champion Award, and is a recipient of the Transformational Achievement in Clean Energy Award from the Hawaii Energy Policy Forum. He is the President of the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators and is a graduate of Oregon State University.
