Leveraging Microgrid Technologies: How State Energy Offices Are Supporting Electric Truck and Bus Charging Stations with Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)

In this session, the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) and the California Energy Commission (CEC) will discuss how State Energy Offices are fostering partnerships to advance microgrid technologies to support the electrification of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. CEC will highlight two case studies of state-funded microgrid projects: WattEV’s Bakersfield Electric Truck Depot and Sysco Riverside Electric Truck Depot.

These case studies will provide the audience with real-world examples of how DER-integrated medium- and heavy-duty EV charging stations can reduce the need for major grid upgrades, minimize impacts to ratepayers, and enhance grid resiliency.

Participants will leave the session with a deeper understanding of the policy, regulatory, technological, and economic implications of microgrids and their role in advancing the electrification of trucks, buses, and other medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
