
Ryan Cryar

Ryan Cryar is a Cybersecurity Researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and team lead of the EV Charging cybersecurity portfolio. He is internationally recognized as a subject matter expert in EV charging cybersecurity and has collaborated with industry leaders around the world. Ryan has authored numerous technical reports and journal articles as well as several standards including UL 2941, IEEE 1547.3, and the revision to IEEE 1547. He has led development of industry leading tools, extending threat informed assessment capabilities advancing cyber research for EV charging. Ryan’s research spans numerous areas in cybersecurity for EV charging such as threat analysis, cryptography, penetration testing, and risk optimization research. He has also led numerous working groups, trainings, and workshops across the industry guiding workforce development and advancing cyber maturity. Ryan’s background is in applied math and computer science, with a focus in cryptography.
