Tim Lutz

Superintendent
Red Lake Independent School District #38

Tim Lutz is an educator who has held a number of roles in various Minnesota school districts.  He worked as a high school teacher and school counselor before moving into the role of school administrator.  He has served as a school principal for four years followed by working as a superintendent in three districts over the past 17 years.

Tim’s greatest enjoyment has always come from visiting schools and getting to know staff and students.  His passions include creating positive and inclusive climate and culture wherever he works.  As an early adopter of innovative ideas, Tim likes taking the lead in initiatives ranging from educational programs to cutting edge technology such as electric school buses and solar arrays for school district buildings.

Red Lake School District Business Manager Willie Larson and Tim Lutz collaborated on a grant to bring two clean E-buses to the Red Lake School District.  They believe clean school buses align well with the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) cultural beliefs of the Red Lake Nation and the values and teachings regarding the protection of the land, water, and air for future generations.  Tim believes that traditionally under-served populations, such as the Red Lake Native American community and its students, deserve to receive the benefits of innovative, equitable, and sustainable energy which leads to energy equity and justice.
