EV Parking Infrastructure Case Study: How Portland International Airport Retrofitted It’s Rental Car Center to Meet Client & Customer Demand
Following the opening of the new Parking and Consolidated Rental Car facility in 2021, constructed without electric vehicle chargers, Portland International Airport (PDX) quickly found itself with an immediate need for EV chargers and little of the needed infrastructure.
This case study examines how PDX has used existing infrastructure and excellent partnerships with its rental car tenants to install EV charger systems for the ever-increasing fleet of electric rental car vehicles and discusses how the rental car industry utilizes EV chargers differently than other industries like parking or logistics.
Takeaways include:
- Be creative with your approach to funding and charging solutions.
- Partnerships are key.
- Examine your needs and how they may differ from other existing models.
- A combination of smaller efforts may be better than a “silver bullet.”
